Welcome to Class 2
Codename: The Kestrels
Class Teacher: Miss A Calver BA (Hons), PGCE
Classroom Assistant: Mrs Owen / Mrs Edmed
We are looking forward to lots of outdoor learning this term and using and applying all the skills we have been working on this year.
We love using our fantastic outdoor area to develop our creativity and our social skills.
All children in Class 2 Kestrels are expected to read regularly at home. Reading a few pages of your school reading book each evening is sufficient for children in Year 1. Year 2 pupils may also begin to write book reviews or recommendations once they start reading longer stories or books from home.
As the term progresses I will also be sending home activities or home learning tasks which will be linked to what we are covering in class, as well as sometimes setting challenges for the children to do at the weekend to give them a head start with what we will be learning about the following week. There will usually be no pressure to hand homework in on a particular day, and I will let you know via Class Dojo if there is something the children need to do or bring in for specific day.
If anyone has any questions or queries at any time please feel free to make an appointment, put a note in your child’s contact book or catch me after school. Also, please use the message feature on Class Dojo, however, please be aware that I will only see these messages when I am at school.
This term we will be covering:
- Number and Place Value
- Addition and Subtraction
- Multiplication and Division
- Geometry – Shape
This term we will be focusing on phonics, reading, spelling and handwriting. Much of our written work will be linked to our Topic. As the term progresses we will also be covering the following in English:
- Fiction: Stories in Familiar Settings, stories involving fantasy.
- Non-Fiction: Labels, lists, signs and posters, Information texts
- Poetry: Songs and Repetitive poems, poems about animals
Year 2 children will be working on a topic around the theme – Events Beyond Living Memory
Year 1 children will be joining Mrs Jones and Class 1 for their Creative Learning lessons on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Their theme is Magical Me.
Our new RE topic is ‘God’. Looking at What do Christians believe God is like?
Premier Sports will continue with PE and the well-being programme.
There will also be opportunities to develop fitness and complete the Golden Mile.
Could you please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school every day and that all items are clearly named.
