Welcome to Class 2 Kestrels at Brookland.
In our class we love to make the most of the beautiful outside area we have. We do a lot of our learning outdoors and take time to develop a love and appreciation of nature and the world around us. We use natural resources in the outdoor environment to develop skills in all areas of the curriculum as well as the children’s communication, language and social skills.
Our children learn best through exploring and investigating, asking questions and putting ideas into practice. We support them in building their confidence and fostering a love of learning.
We believe in the importance of good quality books and one of our favourite things to do is share a story together as a class. Children are encouraged to read their book or listen to a story at home every day and to talk about what they have read or heard.
“My favourite thing is outdoor learning and finding out about nature.” – Lexie
“I love doing maths challenges and writing.” – Oakley
“I like playing outside and making potions.” – Zac
“Playing, painting and PE are my favourites.” – Sienna

Homework
All children in Class 2 Kestrels are expected to read regularly at home. Reading a few pages of your school reading book each evening is sufficient for children in Year 1. Year 2 pupils may also begin to write book reviews or recommendations once they start reading longer stories or books from home.
As the term progresses I will also be sending home activities or home learning tasks which will be linked to what we are covering in class, as well as sometimes setting challenges for the children to do at the weekend to give them a head start with what we will be learning about the following week. There will usually be no pressure to hand homework in on a particular day, and I will let you know via Class Dojo if there is something the children need to do or bring in for specific day.
If anyone has any questions or queries at any time please feel free to make an appointment, put a note in your child’s contact book or catch me after school. Also, please use the message feature on Class Dojo, however, please be aware that I will only see these messages when I am at school.
