Family Support

Specialist support for families when it’s needed most.

“My name is Mrs MacBean and I am the Family Liaison Officer. (FLO)”

At Brookland  we understand that many children and families experience difficult times which can make a happy, successful school and home life a struggle. Sometimes, there are problems that parents or carers need some help with. My role is to help parents and carers ensure that their children can be happy, learn and flourish at our school.  I am here to listen to any concerns, issues, worries or feedback you wish to raise or discuss. I am able to assist if you should need to contact the school nurse, education welfare officer, Citizens Advice (regarding housing, benefit etc), bereavement counselling etc. Essentially, if you should have a concern or issue of any sort, whether personal or school related, then I am a listening ear!

How to contact me

I am available every morning at Breakfast Club or on the front door. I can also be contacted via the office on 01797 344317 or mobile 07935976949

E-mail : nmacbean@brookland.kent.sch.uk

The work that I do in school is completely impartial, non judgmental and confidential and I liaise with all school staff. I will always have the best interests of children and their families at the core of what I do. If I can’t help directly, I am able to signpost you to the appropriate support. Here are some examples of the things I can help with:

  • Parenting concerns
  • Strengthening existing parenting skills
  • Practical strategies to improve learning, behaviour and relationships
  • Healthy lifestyle/eating issues
  • Routines, mealtimes, sleep and play
  • Supporting parents and carers to ‘get involved’ with school life
  • Housing and money worries
  • Family relationship problems
  • Referring, accessing and signposting to local services
  • Grief, loss and bereavement
  • New starts and settling in
  • Food bank vouchers
  • Big breakfast/afternoon tea events for parents
